FRIDAY JULY 20

Tom Tom Magazine is starting a monthly DJ night in town. For our first month we are so stoked to present Kathy Foster, DJ KM Fizzy, at Valentines. Besides DJing the best sets + making some rad visual art, she drums + sings + plays bass in some fantastic bands: the Thermals, & Hurry Up!, & All Girl Summer Fun Band.....

Tom Tom is celebrating the release of their  10th print issue at this night! We'll be there with the mag and merch and would love to talk to you about getting involved, placing ads, getting subscriptions & whatever else floats your boat, within reason.

9 PM TIL CLOSE, HELL YEAH.

TONIGHT, MONDAY, JULY 23

PSYCHEDELIC MONDAY NIGHT! The Sexy Water Spiders are fucking rad, and they bring a layered psychedelic vibe to every inch of their performance. We've been trying to get these guys in here forever, and we're so excited they finally made it. Don't miss them, they're gonna be huge. Tropical Punk (tropicalpunk.bandcamp.com) are from Nashville, and proclaim themselves to be "about parties and highways and broken hearts that sound like The Ramones and Bruce Springsteen if they played together in some basement and then woke up & went driving around the country.”  SOUVENIR DRIVER(.com) promises to offer up dreamy rock and roll world. We'll have acid flashbacks from this night, guaranteed!

THURSDAY, JULY 26th

LITERARY MIXTAPE #9:THE SUMMER EDITION

The Literary Mixtape boys are back in town! Come out this Thursday night to watch Valentine's go up in proverbial flames. Once again, Erik Bader and Matthew Korfhage have put together an evening comprised of what could only be called literary geniuses.  From the horses' mouth:
few kind notes about our readers:

*Lisa Wells is author of a book of poetry (Beast) and of a book of essays on Portland and drunks and musicians and Nicaragua and camping (Yeah. No. Totally.) that had The Stranger calling her "a bomb thrower intent on blowing the stupidity of her own generation to pieces."

*Emily Kendal Frey is a terrifically well-regarded and upstanding poet; aside from her regular appearances in journals and newspapers and such, Frey's book The Grief Performance received both the Cleveland State Poetry Center’s First Book Prize and the Poetry Society of America's First Book Award. Golly.

*Matt Brown is a finely well-read gentleman, the owner and generalized label boss of the very fine music label Bladen County Records, and the co-owner of the very fine bar/venue/refectory Bunk Bar. He also somehow knows every single person in Portland, including your dog and your dog's best friend.

STICK AROUND AFTER-WORDS (get it?) FOR THE HONKY TONK STYLINGS OF THE TENDER LOVE AND CARE DJS!

THURSDAY AUGUST 9TH

Bergerette formed in late 2009 to fête the owner of Mary's Club, Vicki Keller, on her birthday. Their first gig was at the company Christmas party, where two dozen strip-tease professionals accompanied the trio with hand bells. Their new CD, "Beguiled", compiles popular French hits of the 12th-18th centuries, songs that are provocative harmonically, historically, and literally (the French, it turns out, have a loooooong history of hit songs about mutual orgasm; Serge Gainsbourg's "Je t'aime (moi non plus)" of the 1960's is essentially a retelling of "Tyrcis vouloit mourir" of the 1560's).

Bergerette is Pat Janowski, Viva Las Vegas, and Stella Pentimenti, three ladies with decades of performance experience between them. Pat, a veteran actress and musician, is best known for her work with Live Wire! and PICA's Flash Choir. Viva is an author, actress and stripper who fronts Coco Cobra and the Killers. Stella, their magical & mysterious leader, has produced many events in Portland under various pseudonyms, and is a longtime stage veteran as well.

Joining Bergerette on 8/9/12 at Valentine's will be Heather Blackburn on cello. Following Bergerette will be sets by under-sung country stars Jake Ray and Paul Brainard (on loan from the fabulous Landmark Saloon), and "Incubator" founder and curator Myrrh Larsen.
